Description
An extreme close-up of a violet-hued Dalle de Verre glass slab within the windows of the Servants of the Paraclete in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.
The image highlights:
Rich Color Gradients: The light passing through the faceted surface creates a spectrum ranging from a deep, royal plum to a soft, ethereal lavender.
Internal "Seeds": A dense field of tiny air bubbles is visible throughout the glass, creating a sparkling, almost cosmic texture when back-lit by the sun.
Artisanal Chipping: The sharp, sweeping curves and ridges at the bottom left show where the artisan struck the glass to create facets. These irregular surfaces are designed to throw splashes of purple light across the white walls of the nave.
Unique Inclusions: Small dark specks and slight green-toned streaks within the glass demonstrate the raw, elemental nature of slab glass production.
