Description
A full vertical photograph of a narrow "dalle de verre" (faceted glass) window. This panel is part of the thematic series within the chapel nave, depicting the ancient Marian title "Stella Maris" (Star of the Sea) through vibrant, semi-abstract imagery.
The image features:
* Maritime Symbolism: The composition builds from the bottom up, beginning with a stylized purple and blue sailing vessel tossed upon green and blue waves. In the center, a large white five-pointed star radiates light, serving as a beacon. Above the star, a golden-orange lighthouse or tower rises toward a radiant crown at the very top, illustrating Mary’s role as a guide and protector.
* Inscribed Text: The bottom section contains the glass-inlaid title: "STAR OF THE SEAS." The lettering is integrated into the window’s structural matrix using white glass slabs that stand out against the deep blue background.
* Dalle de Verre Technique: The window is constructed from thick slabs of hand-faceted glass set in a dark, opaque matrix. The chipped edges of the glass catch and refract light, creating a prismatic effect that gives the water and star motifs a sense of movement and brilliance.
* Architectural Context: The slender, vertical orientation is a hallmark of the chapel’s Mid-Century Modern design. Set against a dark interior wall, the window functions as a vibrant "pillar of light," contributing to the rhythmic, meditative atmosphere of the nave.
