Description
A full-frontal exterior view of the chapel's main entrance, showcasing the integration of Mid-Century Modern architecture with traditional Southwestern materials. This facade served as the primary welcoming point for the Servants of the Paraclete community.
The image features:
* Central Mosaic: A prominent three-story vertical mosaic window is the focal point of the facade. The stylized design depicts a chalice and host surrounded by radiating lines of light, set within a grid of twelve rectangular panels. The mosaic uses dark blue, gold, and black tiles against a light-colored background.
* Material Contrast: The mosaic is set into a wall of rustic river stones (fieldstone), flanked by two massive, smooth white concrete buttresses that provide a clean, geometric frame for the textured masonry.
* Entrance Portico: A low, flat-roofed overhang supported by dark wooden posts protects the main doorway. The entrance area continues the fieldstone motif on the lower walls, where several commemorative plaques are mounted.
* Architectural Geometry: The shallow-pitched gabled roofline and the vertical emphasis of the buttresses and mosaic illustrate the chapel’s modern design, while the use of local stone grounds the building in its New Mexico high-desert setting.
